Despite Initial Reports Henry Cavill is Still Superman

Despite initial reports from The Hollywood Reporter, which suggested that Henry Cavill would no longer serve in the role of Superman in Warner Bros.’ DC Comics film franchise, it is now being stated that such reports were unwarranted. Following yesterday’s surprising news and a cryptic video response from Cavill himself, Warner Bros. has issued the following statement:

While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.

The initial reports came about after it was stated contract talks between Cavill’s WME reps and Warner Bros. broke down following negotiations to have Cavill perform a cameo in Warner Bros.’ upcoming 2019 film, Shazam!. Additionally, these reports came about merely one week after the announcement of Cavill starring in Netflix’s upcoming The Witcher series. Prior to Warner Bros.’ official statement, Cavill’s manager, Dany Garcia, also reassured fans by stating, “Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet.”

Despite Cavill’s relationship with Warner Bros. remaining “unchanged,” there’s no doubt the DC extended universe remains in a state of constant flux following the mediocre success and critical responses of previous films. Aquaman is due to release in theaters this December and Shazam! in April 2019, followed by the highly anticipated released of Wonder Woman 1984. That being said, it remains unclear how far along we are from getting another solo Superman film, and Ben Affleck’s future role as Batman is continuously questioned. For the time being fans may rest assured knowing Cavill is still up to wearing the red and blue spandex. We’ll keep you posted as more updates come through.
