Fans of NBC’s Timeless have defeated Rittenhouse and changed history—again. As revealed on Twitter by the series’ writers and producers, Timeless will get a two-part movie to wrap up its story. They had previously teased that the Clockblockers’ recent campaigns had helped them open some doors that had been shut. That’s of course referring to their SDCC takeover, where they flew a helicopter with a gigantic #SaveTimeless banner across the skies above. In the days after SDCC, though, the Clockblockers didn’t let up in their efforts, sending cupcakes to producer Sony and other little #SaveTimeless gifts to media and networks.

Though the time travel series has been cancelled twice now (you’d think NBC would’ve taken the hint the first time…), fans have made it abundantly clear that they’re not going anywhere. And once again, it’s the fans’ outpouring of love and passion for Timeless that made it possible for the Time Team to take another spin in the Lifeboat. In a joint statement, Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke expressed their wishes that Timeless could’ve had a much longer run, but they’re both thrilled that the fans will get the closure they deserve.

“The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters,” Ryan and Kripke stated. “So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”

Yes. Yes, we do.

“We’re excited to tell one final chapter to this incredible story,” NBC Entertainment co-president of scripted programming Lisa Katz said. “A huge thank you to all — our cast, crew, producers and partners at Sony — who have worked so very hard, and to the fans who kept us on our toes and made sure we did our very best week after week.”

Within minutes of the news breaking across all corners of social media, Clockblockers made Timeless a top trend to celebrate. The show’s cast (sometimes in character!), writers, and producers joined in on the fun, too, thanking fans for their dedication and exhaustive campaigns. Their reactions are just too good not share here.

Needless to say, it’s been quite a bumpy ride for this beloved science fiction series, and everyone has earned the right to celebrate! Fans have dedicated months of their own time and money to show how much Timeless means to them and how important this show is overall. The fact that it’s been revived twice, that the series’ own time travel mythos has sort of inspired two resurrections, should send a clear message. Timeless‘ unique take on history and its quiet commitment to representation, inclusiveness, and themes of friendship, hope, and perseverance resonate with so many people.

While we don’t have a specific date for the two hour Timeless finale movie, fans can expect it to air on NBC sometime this winter. The entire cast is set to return very enthusiastically for this mission. In the meantime, it’s strongly encouraged that Clockblockers get literally everyone they know to rewatch the two previous seasons and tune in for the movie event. A huge ratings boost could eventually open other doors in the future—we don’t know what this would entail, exactly, or how quickly it could happen, but the possibilities are there.

We’re happy to say that Timeless isn’t a thing of the past just yet. We’ll have more updates on the series finale movie as they become available. How did you react to the #SaveTimeless news? Tell us in the comments!
