The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel SocietyNetflix has added a British historical romance to its roster with the upcoming release of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.

The streaming giant is releasing so much quality content these days that it’s hard to keep track. And now it will be contributing to the romantic period drama genre with this lovely film that may have a mouthful of a title but boasts of an all-star cast and a heartwarming story.

Here is the official synopsis of the film:

“Directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and based on the best-selling and much loved novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society sees Lily James (War and Peace, Cinderella) play free-spirited writer Juliet Ashton, who forms a life-changing bond with the delightful and eccentric Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, when she decides to write about the book club they formed during the occupation of Guernsey in WWII.  The film also stars Michiel Huisman (The Age of Adaline, Game of Thrones), Glen Powell (Set It Up, Everybody Wants Some), Matthew Goode (The Imitation Game, A Discovery of Witches), Jessica Brown Findlay (Victor Frankenstein, Jamaica Inn) and Katherine Parkinson (The IT CrowdThe Boat That Rocked) with Tom Courtenay (45 YearsDoctor Zhivago) and Penelope Wilton (The BFGThe Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).”

The project also reunites some Downton Abbey alums with James, Goode, Brown Findlay, and Wilton all having been main cast members of that acclaimed period drama. Downton fans will undoubtedly enjoy seeing these familiar faces on their screen once more. This has all the makings of another hit for Netflix and one that will appeal to the wide audience of British period drama.
