WATCH: New Trailer Released for ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’

Venom isn’t the only Marvel Comics property Sony Pictures will be bringing to the big screen this year. Added to that growing list: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, an animated film set to introduce the masses to Miles Morales, another Spider-Man from an alternate universe. Written by Phil Lord (The Lego Movie), Into the Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore (The Get Down) as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson (New Girl) as Peter Parker, Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) as The Kingpin, Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) as Miles’ father Jefferson Davis, and Luna Lauren Velez (How to Get Away with Murder) as Miles mother Rio Morales, among others.

Sony Pictures has now unveiled the first full trailer since their initial teaser released back in December 2017. In the trailer we see Miles juggle his student and family responsibilities while also training to be Spider-Man under the tutelage of Peter Parker, taking on enemies like the Kingpin. The animation looks simply amazing and unique, unlike other 3D animated feature films we’ve seen in recent years. The end of the trailer even introduces a surprise in the form of Gwen Stacy as Spider-Gwen, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee).

With both Miles Morales/Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen having both been introduced in comics within the last eight years, Miles in 2011 and Spider-Gwen in 2015, now seems like a good time to introduce them to a broader audience in the form of this animated feature film. Both characters have really gravitated with fans since their introduction and Miles himself has become culturally significant, being one of the first half-black, half-Hispanic super heroes to rise to such prominence.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse releases in theaters December 14th. Check out the full trailer below and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
