REVIEW: Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep7 – The Wrong Side of Where You Are Now

Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep7

Fear the Walking Dead finally shows us how the Stadium fell, and all the boneheaded decisions that lead to this. We are still uncertain about Madison’s fate but the show seems to be saving that reveal for next week’s mid-season finale.

So we saw the aftermath of last week’s 3with the Vultures. John Dorie was shot and Naomi was tending to his injury. Frustratingly, we don’t find out if John’s injuries are fatal or not because we spend more time watching them flee Alicia and company’s wrath and watching flashbacks to when Alicia and Nick were willing to give anyone a second chance.

Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep7In the past timeline, Madison and the others find an injured Mel and Charlie begs them to show him mercy. I’m not sure what kind of morality Fear the Walking Dead is advocating at this point because the narrative has been inconsistent in showing this. You have Madison giving someone as shifty as Strand multiple chances. Then, she decides she will withhold this benefit from Mel, and I don’t blame her as the guy had been threatening their existence throughout the season.

But for some reason, Nick and Alicia decide that he is deserving of mercy and they go out to try and rescue him after Madison sends him away. It’s one of those noble but dumb decisions that only brings trouble. They leave the safety of the stadium and when they return, the other Vultures are back, surrounding the place with fire and a horde of walkers.

Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep7Madison decides to try and save her kids and we all know that this is not going to end well. Especially since we see the state of the stadium when Naomi convinces them to drive there at the end of the episode and they are surrounded by walkers.

Back in the present timeline, Morgan steps up as John’s friend and tries his best to help everyone. There was an annoying moment when Al was just filming the whole ordeal, distancing herself from the story, and Morgan told her to get involved.

At one point, Luciana comes face-to-face with Nick’s killer, Charlie, and somehow manages not to pull the trigger. Charlie’s lucky that she’s a little girl because otherwise, no one would hesitate. And she’s also probably lucky it was Luci she faced and not the ruthless Alicia.

Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep7The episode saw Mel in a constant state of injury though considering his previous arrogance and ruthlessness, it’s tough to feel sorry for him. He miraculously survives an explosion and crawls out, only to find himself looking into Alicia’s vengeful face. There’s no surviving this confrontation and the girl who had advocated saving him in the flashback, now brutally murders him. Alicia does not forgive.

Now that Morgan, John, Naomi, Charlie, and Al have arrived at the stadium, they will have a lot to contend with. One last episode to go before the hiatus and we still have no idea what happened to Madison.
