The Crown S3 adds Helena Bonham-Carter, Jason Watkins

Helena Bonham Carter The Crown S3Netflix has confirmed that Helena Bonham-Carter will be playing Princess Margaret while Jason Watkins will be playing Harold Wilson in the third season of The Crown.

Bonham-Carter talked about the new role in an interview with Variety, saying:

“I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about — doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret…“The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter [than Vanessa].”

Bonham-Carter’s most recent project is Ocean’s 8 but she is most known for starring in The King’s Speech and in the Harry Potter film series.

Jason Watkins The Crown S3Watkins will be playing the role of Harold Wilson who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1964 to 1970 and again from 1974 to 1976.

He also expressed his excitement about the project:

“I am delighted to become part of this exceptional show…And so thrilled to be working once again with Peter Morgan. Harold Wilson is a significant and fascinating character in our history. So looking forward to bringing him to life, through a decade that transformed us culturally and politically. And excited to be working so closely with Olivia; and the whole team.”

Watkins, who won a BAFTA for The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies, has also starred in Being Human, Trollied, and Dirk Gently.

Bonham-Carter and Watkins will be joining the season 3 cast members Olivia Colman, who will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy, and Tobias Menzies, who will take over the role of Prince Philip from Matt Smith.

The Crown chronicles the lives of the House of Windsor from Elizabeth II’s ascent to the throne after the war and onward. The first season covered the period 1947 to 1955; the second 1956 to 1963. Season 2 debuted last December 8, 2017 and there is currently an exhibit at the Paley Center showcasing the costumes, art, and photography from the series.

The Crown season 3 will air in 2019 on Netflix.
