Kristen Wiig Cast as Cheetah in Upcoming ‘Wonder Woman’ Sequel

Director Patty Jenkins has announced that Kristen Wiig will play the villainous Cheetah in the upcoming sequel to Warner Bros.’ 2017 hit DC Comics film Wonder Woman.

While Kristen Wiig is well known for her comedic performances in series like Saturday Night Live and films like Ghostbusters (2016) and Bridesmaids, Wiig has also dabbled in dramatic roles including the films The Martian, The Secret Life of Water Mitty and The Skeleton Twins. Wiig is definitely an interesting choice to play a super villain in a DC film, but considering her talents as both a comedian and actress, as well as a writer, Wiig might have a lot to bring to the table for this highly anticipated sequel.

While the DC Comics villain, Cheetah, has been portrayed numerous times with varying characters taking on the mantle, the most recent incarnation is that of Barbara Ann Minerva, who was originally introduced in 1987’s Wonder Woman #7. The role was first taken up by Priscilla Rich in 1943’s Wonder Woman #6. As of right now it’s unclear which incarnation of Cheetah Wiig will portray in the upcoming sequel.
