Watch the royal trailer for season 2 of The Crown

The Crown season 2Netflix has released the full trailer and key art for the upcoming British royal drama, The Crown, which chronicles the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Crown stars Claire Foy (Wolf Hall) in her Golden Globe-winning turn as the queen who struggles to uphold her duties in the midst of trying times.

Here is the official description of the second season of the critically-acclaimed drama:

The Crown, a Netflix original series, tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, as the fragile social order established after the Second World War breaks apart. Based on the award-winning play, The Audience, the series reunites creator/writer Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) with director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and producer Andy Harries (The Queen).

Beginning with soldiers in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt, and ending with the downfall of her third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan after a devastating scandal, the second season bears witness to the end of the age of deference, and ushers in the revolutionary era of the 1960s.

The Crown continues to chronicle the major political and global events that have defined and shaped the second half of the twentieth century – a series that is unprecedented in its scale, ambition and creative vision.”

The Crown also stars Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Philip, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, Victoria Hamilton as Queen Elizabeth (mother), Alex Jennings as Edward, Duke of Windsor, and many more. Joining the stellar cast in season two are Matthew Goode as Antony Armstrong-Jones, Michael C. Hall as John F. Kennedy, Jodi Balfour as Jacqueline Kennedy, and Anton Lesser as Harold Macmillan.

From the looks of this trailer, the second season will be even more compelling than the first, with powerful performances and amazing writing.

The entire second season of The Crown will drop on Netflix on December 8.
