At NYCC 2017: Gotham Returns!

Fox’s Gotham returns for its fourth season, and yet another trip to NYCC with teases galore. We sat down with many members of their large cast, all of whom couldn’t wait to give us some inside scoop.

The Sirens are now official. With Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) training Selina (Camren Bicondova) – and Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) acting as cranky co-parent, these three will be wrecking havoc as they battle their way back to the top of the food chain.

Over at Team Wayne, David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne), Sean Pertwee (Alfred), and Chris Chalk (Lucius Fox) discussed some upcoming growing pains as Alfred and Bruce’s relationship goes through some (more!) rocky times. By the way, the suit? Sweaty! And Lucius? He remains invaluable to Bruce, and also to the audience – who need to have at least one person in Gotham looking around going, “Wow, what the heck is going on?”

Executive Producer Danny Cannon was joined by Alexander Siddig (Ra’s al Ghul). We learned that Ra’s al Ghul will have an agenda – of course – but it won’t be easy to pin down what side he’s on. What’s easier to discern from both Cannon and Siddig – and something echoed by everyone on the show – is how much this cast adores each other. So much so that Cannon is loath to let a single one go – which explains why no one ever seems to really die!

Ben McKenzie (Jim Gordon) and Donal Logue (Harvey Bullock) shared some in-depth insight into the detectives’ relationship, particularly why Harvey is the one person who can call Jim out on his BS. And with the GCPD now under Penguin’s control, will there be any heroics from these two?

With such a big cast, we only had a few minutes with Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin) and newcomer Crystal Reed (Sofia Falcone) but they stuck around just long enough to drop an epic tease about what’s coming down the romantic pike on Gotham

And finally, there’s a new dysfunctional family unit in Gotham and it’s a doozy. A newly defrosted Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) is having a rough go of things. Butch (Drew Powell) isn’t quite himself anymore (to say the least), while Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) is fighting guilt by tending to the poorest of the poor in the Narrows. This odd threesome forms an unlikely friendship – one that will be both healing and a little bit dangerous.

Watch Gotham on Fox, Thursdays at 8 pm ET.
