SDCC 2017: ‘Star Trek: Discovery drops exciting new trailer

One of the most anticipated new series for the 2017-2018 television series is the first installment in one of the most beloved franchises of all time, Star Trek: Discovery. At this weekends San Diego Comic Con, CBS unveiled a new look at the series:

It’s been 12 years since Star Trek last graced our television screens, with the demise of the much beloved Enterprise, and Discovery takes us back to a time before the original series. With a new crew on a new ship, Star Trek: Discovery will explore a volatile time in the Star Trek mythology when the biggest threat to the Federation was the Klingon Empire.

This time around the focus will shift away from the Captain of the ship (who has taken the lead role in every other Star Trek series) to a First-Officer played by Sonequa Martin-Green. This marks only the 2nd time in Star Trek cannon that the lead of the show is a woman (Star Trek: Voyager Captain Janeway being the other instance). And of course, from that trailer it looks like she’s in a bit of hot water as Jason Isaacs (Captain Gabriel Lorca) asks if she’d like to help end the war she just started. Oops.

The first episode of Star Trek: Discovery will premiere on CBS on September 24th, and the series will then move exclusively to CBS All Access, with a total of 8 episodes airing in the fall, and the remaining episodes of this first season airing in January 2018.
