DC Comics Announces Prequel Comic to Upcoming ‘Batman and Harley Quinn’ Animated Film

Directed by Sam Liu (Teen Titans: The Judas Contract) and written by Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series), Batman and Harley Quinn is DC Entertainment’s next animated film and will be released digitally on August 15th and on Blu-ray and DVD August 29. In order to prepare fans for Batman and Harley Quinn, DC Comics has announced a digital prequel comic series will be released.

Entitled Harley Quinn and Batman, the digital series will release bi-weekly beginning July 31 on Comixology and other digital platforms. After the film’s digital release on August 15, the series title will be renamed Batman and Harley Quinn to match the title of the film, and will release weekly serving as a prequel to the events that occur in the film.

The first five prequel chapters will be written by Ty Templeton with art by Rick Burchett, both of whom have collaborated in the past on Batman & Robin Adventures and Batman: The Gotham Adventures. The following seven chapters will include stories from Templeton, as well as writers and artists Jeff Parker (Future Quest), Craig Rousseau (Batman Beyond), Amanda Deibert (Wonder Woman ’77), and many more. Following the series’ digital release, all 12 chapters will eventually be collected in physical trade paperback form by Summer 2018.
