Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to be animated

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor DreamcoatAn animated version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is currently in the works for STX.

Variety reports that Elton John, Tim Rice, and Lloyd Webber himself are working together on this project. This announcement was made during CinemaCon2017 by Adam Fogelson, chairman of STX’s Motion Picture Group.

According to Fogelson, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will feature new songs by Lloyd Webber and Rice, who created the musical in the 1960s. The show is based on the story of Joseph the Dreamer from the Book of Genesis in the Bible. It was first performed on Broadway in 1982. And this followed the great success of Lloyd Webber’s musical, Jesus Christ Superstar.

Elton John and Tim Rice previously collaborated on the music for Disney’s The Lion King, for which they won an Academy Award for Best Original Song (“Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”).
