David Tennant Discusses His Familiarity With The Comics AKA Jessica Jones Is Based On

Last weekend David Tennant joined thousands of fans at Philadelphia Wizard World along with Doctor Who co-star Billie Piper. While in Philly, both shared a joint panel as well as appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves while posing for photographs with fans.

DSCN2173During the panel, Tennant was asked about his own reading of Marvel’s Alias and The Pulse. “I hadn’t read them before,” admitted Tennant to the packed room. He went on to say, “I’ve read them since I’ve got the job and they are fantastic comic books.” Cautioning his fans about the comics, Tennant described them as “very much for an older readership” and “not for any of our younger viewers.” He also declined “to comment on specific story lines in case it gets cross referenced and I get into trouble.” Later he played coy when another fan asked him for spoilers from the upcoming series, expected to wrap filming in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen sometime in June and due out in late 2015 or early 2016.

DSCN2143Marvel is planning a rerelease of Alias in four volumes due out beginning in September, with the last one released in December. AKA Jessica Jones: Alias Volume 1 will include comics one through nine while AKA Jessica Jones: Alias Volume 2 will contain issues eleven to fifteen. The third installment, AKA Jessica Jones: Alias Volume 3 will highlight copies sixteen to twenty-one as well as issue ten and AKA Jessica Jones: Alias Volume 4 will include series numbers twenty-two to twenty-eight. The four volumes will introduce viewers to Jessica’s ailments as she tries to cope with no longer being a superhero, and becoming a private investigator and taking on specialized superhero cases. The Purple Man is highlighted in the fourth installment, diving into the damage that he caused Jessica Jones and how she left the superhero life.

As Tennant states, “the comic book is fantastic and it very much inspires the show we’re doing and I recommend them both to you heartily.” If you want to pre-order any of the comic volumes they are available on Amazon. And stay tuned for Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones staring David Tennant, Krysten Ritter, and Mike Colter. Have any of you read the Alias or The Pulse comics? What did you think?
