David Tennant Talks Joining Marvel and AKA Jessica Jones at Wizard World

Saturday at Raleigh, North Carolina’s Wizard World David Tennant did let one tiny secret about the currently filming AKA Jessica Jones slip. He alluded to how great the episodes are going to be, stating “you should read these scripts. They’re really good.” However, that is all fans got out of Tennant regarding the upcoming Marvel/Netflix venture. Tennant cited Marvel’s “snipers” with keeping his lips tightly sealed, noting that “they follow you everywhere you go as soon as you join.”

Of course like any fan would be, Tennant is over the moon about working for Marvel: “this is something I grew up with. It’s like my eight year old self doesn’t know what to do with himself,” he described. Growing up Tennant stated that he read comics like The Hulk. He went on to say, “I think comic books are a glorious wonderful art form and I think Marvel is one of the things that we’ll be looking back on in a hundred years’ time,” he proclaimed, even arguing that, “they’ll be one of the cornerstones of our cultural existence.”

He went on to discuss his recent visit to the Marvel offices: “I got shown around and clever people gave me comic books and told me how they got made and met people that spent their day doing that stuff. It was so exciting. ” Tennant sure seems like a true fan who wants to see the best of the comics that he got lost in as a child. “Marvel are now making the movies that as an eight year old [I] thought…why hasn’t anybody made those movies,” he confessed. “But I guess the world has caught up, technology has caught up which allows these things in part to be realized so beautifully,” he noted, ending with, “It comes down to stories, it comes down to the heart and that’s what makes the stories sing.”

AKA Jessica Jones is expected to sing its way into your house sometime in 2015. It is currently filming in New York City. David Tennant has been cast as the villainous Dr. Killgrave while Krysten Ritter stars as Jessica Jones, with Mike Colter joining the ensemble as Luke Cage. The show is set to follow Marvel’s Daredevil.
