Marvel Reveals First Official ‘Ant-Man’ Teaser

Last night after ABC’s two-hour series premiere of Agent Carter, Marvel unveiled the first full teaser for Ant-Man. The upcoming film, directed by Peyton Reed, stars Michael Douglass as Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, and Paul Rudd in the titular role of Scott Lang/Ant-Man. Check it out.

While the majority of the teaser is played fairly straight and serious, we do get a glimpse of humor as the teaser pokes fun at the name of Lang’s superhero persona. Still, the serious tone to this teaser threw me off a bit. Knowing the film aims to be both action packed and comedic, I expected a teaser more in line with the first teaser for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which cleverly used Blue Suede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” as its trailer music. The music for this new Ant-Man trailer felt very generic.

We do get to see some amazing and beautiful shots of Paul Rudd in his Ant-Man gear leaping into action and actually riding an ant. Additionally, we learn that Lang’s daughter Cassie will play a pivotal role in Ant-Man’s origin and we get to hear Michael Douglass’ Hank Pym give an over-dramatic speech to Scott Lang about being a hero. Overall, this teaser delivers exactly what it should a tease.

It’s still sad to know that Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), who was originally slated to direct Ant-Man, backed out of the project. I would’ve liked to see Wright’s unique visual style makes its way into the Marvel cinematic universe. Hopefully, comedic director Peyton Reed has what it takes to deliver what could be yet another highly satisfying Marvel film. We’ll find out July 16, 2015.
