Coachella 2014 Lineup

Coachella 2014 LineupOn Wednesday, Goldenvoice dropped the lineup for this years Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and well, there may have been a tiny bit of squealing in my household when we got a look at the bands who’d be gracing the stage at this years event.

Ok, maybe there was a whole lot of squealing, I admit it.

It’s been years since I last attended the event. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I went, but I think it was when Depeche Mode played. Google tells me that was in 2006, which is surprising, to say the least. Where did the years go?!

The lineup just hasn’t enticed me before now. There were always bands I wanted to see, but only a few, and never enough to make it worth the $300+ for tickets. However, after missing out on last years show, I decided it was time to return to Indio and catch some music, regardless of whether or not I knew who was playing. It’s about the atmosphere, and the chance to pick up new bands. $375 was worth it!

And then that lineup came out and it all became clear, because boy am I ever happy I’m going. Muse! Arcade Fire! Lorde! Capital Cities! Bastille! I could go on and on.

But what I really can’t wait for is those bands I don’t really know. Those bands whose amazing music I haven’t yet discovered. Because there is nothing like that feeling of hearing that music for the first time. Nothing like wandering into a tent between bands you’d come to hear, trying to kill some time, only to discover something new and amazing.

That is why Coachella is one of those events that really should be on your must do list every year. Like SDCC or NYCC or SXSW. Because it’s the amazing moments you don’t plan for. That’s what makes it worth every last cent.
