The first ever New York PaleyFest has been going on since Wednesday, and has thus far been a great success in supporting and promoting shows made in the Big Apple. Last night the cast and crew of Elementary discussed the creation of the hit show and the its future.

Jonny Lee Miller Answers Questions on the Red CarpetThe panel members were made up of actors Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu, Aidan Quinn, and Jon Michael Hill, Executive Produces Craig Sweeney and Carl Beverly, and Creator and Producer Rob Doherty, all looking sharp in their red carpet best.

During the panel, creator Rob Doherty confirmed we’ll be seeing more of Sherlock’s brother, Mycroft (played by Rhys Ifans). “Circumstances will draw him back into Sherlock and Joan’s orbit,” he said, stating to expect Mycroft to appear “a couple more times in the first 12 episodes, and four more times in the back [last] 12.” Also confirmed to reappear is Natalie Dormer’s Irene Adler/Moriarty, somewhere “around midseason.”

When questioned, both Jon Michael Hill and Aidan Quinn revealed that their characters (Detective Bell and Captain Gregson, respectively) will have their back stories and personal lives explored. We will learn “some unwanted private details” about Gregson’s wife, and Hill stated that he would be “very surprised” if viewers did not see more of his character’s brother, Andre.

Lucy Liu gives a short interview on the red carpet.Creators and actors also talked about the diversity in the show and the steps they are taking towards continuing it. One audience member shared her story as a first-generation Chinese-American who gave up an acting career because she felt there would be no roles for her. She thanked Lucy Liu for “decolonizing the British literary canon.” Lucy Liu acknowledged that “an actress of ethnicity has a much harder journey,” and that it is very difficult, but  necessary, to break down the walls in Hollywood. “You just need to have a little hammer in your back pocket.”
