Elysium: The Art of the Film – Review and Giveaway!

Thanks to our friends at Titan Books, we’ve got our hands on the gorgeous book Elysium: The Art of the Film to tie in with the release of the film from Neil Blomkamp.

ElysiumElysium takes place in the year 2154, a time where two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these words is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

The film was written and directed by Neil Blomkamp (District 9), who is known for his attention to detail, and artistry when it comes to the look and feel of his film. Says Blomkamp:

People always say film is t combination of all the arts. Throwing music, theater, visual arts, and writing into a blender and composing a medley of all these things. To me the visual design element of this process is the most rewarding. I get the most kick out of visuals, and in film-making that runs from set design, to costumes, to props and cinematography.

ElysiumThe book is a film fans dream with detail on every aspect of set and prop design from the sweeping landscapes of Elysium to the harsh reality of a planet Earth where greenery is a thing of the past. With details on every weapon or vehicle.
