Despite suddenly being alive again due to mysterious reasons, Agent Coulson will not be making an appearance in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Of course, we will get to see plenty of him on TV in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but we won’t be seeing him reunite with Tony or the others any time soon.
Joss Whedon said the problem is that bringing Coulson back would overload the movie:
He could [come back]. Right now it’s not something I’m pursuing because I have so much going on in Avengers 2. Finding out that Coulson is alive would be an entire B story. And I already have too much movie. That’s better than the other thing.
That’s bound to be disappointing to fans but also to Clark Gregg, who recently said in an interview that he would love to come back to the films. But he’ll also be busy with his new show, so perhaps it’s not meant to be.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released May 4, 2015 and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will premiere September 24 on ABC at 8pm. Disappointed that Coulson won’t be in the movie? Still wondering how the heck he survived? Let us know in the comments below!
