Probably the most shocking moment of The Avengers (besides that ridiculously high box office gross) was when Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) was stabbed in the back (literally!) by Loki, and died. Or did he…
Of course, this is comics, and no one really stays dead for long in the comic book world.
Ever since Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. program was announced, there has been speculation that everyone’s favorite Agent would make an appearance, and yesterday Marvel confirmed it. Agent Coulson is coming back.
In a video announcement, Marvel Studios head Kevin Fage proclaimed that “There was never going to be a S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ show without Agent Phil Coulson!” and Show Runner Joss Whedon added “He’s headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and always was.”
And the internet did rejoice. And maybe a few people stopped cursing Joss Whedon’s name for killing off yet another beloved character – as Whedon has been continually blamed for the death, though we should all know by now that it was truly Marvel’s decision.
So what do you think of the news, and what this teaser of information gives us about the world in which S.H.I.E.L.D. will take place? Is it a prequel to the Marvel film world? Or is Nick Fury a lying liar who lies, and Coulson didn’t die from his wounds after all? Let us know in the comments below!
