Ever since the announcement that The Hobbit would be expanded from two films into three, fans have been wondering when they’ll get to see the conclusion of the eagerly anticipated trilogy. Warner Bros. and New Line have now revealed the official release date of the third and final film along with a name change for the second installment. The second film will now be titled The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and its former title will now be used for the third film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
As for release dates, the third film will debut in theaters on July 18, 2014, just seven months after the second movie’s release on December 13, 2013. The first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opens on December 14 of this year.
