If you didn’t watch the first season of American Horror Story, then you missed out on one of the best original series on American television in years. Not to mention some amazing storytelling and creepiness. In short, it was awesome.
Even more strangeness and psychological thrills await you in the second season of the show, which will take on an entirely new setting and with an new cast. So if you missed that first series, you don’t even have the excuse of having missed it to fall back on as it’s not essential viewing. Though why you’d want to skip over it, I have no idea.
Season 2, subtitled Asylum, will take place in 1964 in a mental institution for the criminally insane. Whereas the first season of the show featured a supernatural story full of ghosts, this second season will be more grounded in reality; focusing on insanity and the horrors one human can inflict on another. The images released so far in a series of teasers, and now these posters show that the Asylum is run by some nuns who appear to be just as disturbed as the patients they care for.
Jessica Lange will be returning after her much celebrated role in the first season of the show, taking on the role of the woman in charge of the Asylum. Joining her will be a whole host of new characters played by Franka Potente (Copper, The Bourne Identity), Adam Levine (The lead singer of Maroon 5 in his first acting role), James Cromwell (The Artist), Joseph Fiennes (FlashForward), and Chloe Sevigny (Big Love).
Season 2 of American Horror Story begins on FX on 17th October.
